Nchito,
Depends on the condition of the car actually. 100K km does not sound like a lot for a car that year, but you should bring it to ur local mechanic, just in case. However generally this car has not much problems.

The vibration with the engine is due to the engine mounting. It's relatively cheap to change the mounting, I would change that if I were you. It's the rubber that has hardened as the car gets older. It's normal for a car this age.

Don't worry about the timing chain, it can last a very long time.

Problem with my wheel bearing is that it vibrates slightly when pushed with your hand. You will only notice it when you jack up the car.

Engine noise is abnormally loud noise when you push the car hard. Normally it can be solved by just an oil change, but if that does not fix the problem, you should have it checked.

The car has send to a experience formal inspection.
he mention everything is good, accident free..full record toyota maintenance
just only the aircond is not cold, need to refill gas.

when stop that time, i try switch the Gear to D,i feel some minor vibration, but it acceptable.(not as worst serious as my Wira 1998)

but i am curios, wrethe is normal or abnormal?hmm?

or maybe is the engine mountings' problem??

as you mention above.
the Timing chain is need to be change?
i tho it can last up for 500k mileage.

however what is the wheel bearring anyways?

hopefully i alrdi pay deposit in this car
and now wait only for the loan approved.

Hi there,

156,000 km is on the high side for an 8 year old car. At such a high mileage car, you should take it for a major service (every 80,000 is a major service, in your case, it should be the 2nd major service, if the owner follows the schedule). Things to look out for are the engine noise, timing chain and also wheel bearing. Since the owner has already changed the wheel bearing, then that just leaves the engine and the timing chain.

But overall, I am satisfied with the Altis, really no major problem with the car!

hi Jacky,
i found your blog,and the sametime,i am in the mean time,buying a 2nd altis.
i need your seriously advise!

its a 2002 year altis 1.8G
the owner told me that, this car come with leather seats. we are the first owner, and the car is accident free, in fantastic condition. the full service history is by toyota.

the last history at toyota was in september 2010. wheel bearings have just been changed, as well as the battery (all in sept 2010).

the mileage of the car is at about 156,000km

so jacky, for 8 year car,is it still worth to buy?
but i see the car condition, from the outlook
it welltaken care..and the paint have been respray.

i going to take this car go inspection tomorrow.

hopefully,i can get your comment,as soon as possible.

Thank you!!
your comment will be appeciated!

Hi Ramesh,
If petrol consumption is your main priority, and you always get stuck in KL traffic jams, then getting a 1.6 makes sense. But if you travel in highways a lot, getting a 1.8 might be a better idea, since the car is rather heavy. All said, it's better to test drive the car yourself to know the feel. You might feel the car rather sluggish on the 1.6

To give you an idea, I get almost 450 km for every RM 65 of petrol (RON 95, RM1.80 per litre). Go to my blog to read more.
